Datasheet Description:

The station mark is a standard disk stamped, BIG WASH 1936 1977. It is set in top of a 10 inch concrete monument which is flush with the ground surface. It is 3-1/2 feet southwest of the witness post and 3 feet west of the west right of way fence of U.S. Highway 80. Reference mark 3 is a standard disk stamped, BIG WASH NO 3 1936. It is set in top of a 12 inch concrete monument which projects 10 inches. It is 41 feet south of the witness post and 4 feet west of the right of way fence line. Reference mark 4 is a standard disk stamped, BIG WASH NO 4 1936 1977. It is set in top of a 12 inch concrete monument flush with the ground surface and even with the west edge of the right of way fence line. The azimuth mark is a standard disk stamped, BIG WASH 1936. It is set in top of a 6 x 6 inch concrete post which projects 2 inches. It is 2 feet north of the witness post and 63-1/2 feet west of the center line of the highway. To reach the station from the exxon service station or cafe in the small town of catalina, cross the highway to the west right of way fence and the station.


"BIG WASH RESET" is a benchmark monumented by the USC&GS in 1977 located in Pima County, Arizona. It has 4 deticated reference marks, 3 of which have been destroyed, and a deticated azimuth, which has also been destroyed. Originally, the benchmark was set in 1936.

The benchmark is named after the wash just west of the benchmark promptly named the Big Wash.

The best way to get to "BIG WASH RESET" is to park at 32.500650, -110.926502. Proceed following the right of way fence, on the west side. Pass through the gap in the east-west at the right of way fence to access to the station.

"BIG WASH NO 1" was located 56.791 feet or 17.310 meters 36 degrees from the main benchmark. It was located at about the same elevation as the station. It has been destroyed.

"BIG WASH NO 2" was located 35.505 feet or 10.822 meters 25 degrees from the main benchmark. It was located at a lower elevation than the station. It has been destroyed.

"BIG WASH NO 3" is located 38.819 feet or 11.832 meters 183 degrees from the main benchmark. It is located about 1 foot lower than the station.
